Big House set to become Big Stage for first time

This weekend, Michigan Stadium will break a new record as it hosts the largest ticketed concert ever in the United States. Zach Bryan is the headliner for the event on Saturday, September 27. The event will bring many newcomers to the Big House and the surrounding campus community, and the Division of Public Safety and Security would like to share the following safety tips with concert-goers.

Permitted and Prohibited Items

Bring only necessary items to Michigan Stadium. Refer to the following list of permitted and prohibited items before you arrive.

Permitted items include:

  • Seat cushion
  • Cell phone or pager
  • Small camera
  • Radios
  • Hats and rain apparel
  • Binoculars (without a case)

Prohibited items include:

  • Weapons
  • Bags
  • Bottles
  • Drones
  • Selfie Sticks
  • Umbrellas

Medical Help

If you need medical help, contact any uniformed officer or athletic team member. If you are concerned about someone's health and safety due to alcohol, call 911 or text 377911 immediately. If your friend is still responsive, you can help them sit up comfortably and give them water to drink.

A medical tent is located near Gate 9 at the north end of the stadium.

Severe Weather

In severe weather, Michigan Stadium staff will make announcements over the public address system to inform spectators about the weather situation. Pay close attention to these announcements for instructions on where to go and what to do.

Separated From Your Group?

Before the event starts, it’s a good idea to agree on a designated meeting spot with your group in case anyone gets separated. Common meeting points could include certain gates, sections, or nearby landmarks.

If you cannot contact them using a cell phone, you can always contact a member of the stadium staff, a security team member, or go to the Guest Services Booth for assistance.

Witnessing Something Illegal or Suspicious

Remember: If you see something, say something. Even if unsure of what is happening, the best thing to do is report it to event security or other staff. You may help prevent violence or theft.

Suspicious behavior or activity can be any action that is out of place and does not fit into the usual day-to-day activity of our campus community. If you witness behavior that concerns you, trust your instincts and call 911 or DPSS at (734) 763-1131 or report your concern online.

Get into the Stadium Easily

In order to ensure that you and others get into the stadium safely and easily, it is recommended that you have your tickets and information readily available. If there are printed tickets, have them in your hand and ready when approaching the gates, or have your mobile ticket saved to your mobile wallet to access it easily.

Plan your Route Ahead of Time

Over 110,000 people are expected to be in attendance at Michigan Stadium for the concert, so there will be traffic delays and shifts, as well as limited parking. DPSS recommends that you use Waze to plan your route to and from the stadium ahead of time.

Alcohol policy and safety:

Alcohol sales will begin at 4:00 p.m. when the gates are open. Identification is required to purchase alcoholic beverages. The University of Michigan wants to remind all attendees to consume alcohol safely and in moderation, and not to drive after drinking. The university does have resources available such as Safe Ride for students and the Stay in the Blue app to ensure safety during and after the event.

For students, Michigan’s Medical Amnesty law helps protect minors who need medical help for things like alcohol or drug use. If you seek help, you won’t get in trouble with the law. The goal is to ensure nothing stops you from getting the needed assistance. Find out more about medical amnesty here.
